Please
read Psalm 51:6-9
Dear brother and sister in Christ, are you a
struggling and scared sinner? If you are, a careful study of these four verses
(Psalm 51:6-9)
should comfort and convict you that God loves you and will take care of all
your sins.
In verse
6, David tells us that God desires and delights inward purity. The world sees
and judges the outside but God knows our hearts (Jeremiah 17:10, Psalm 139:1). Wondering
why God would care – when you doubt your own inward purity? Why God would
forgive you? Why God would delight in you, a sinner? Because of Jesus! How much
does God love you? Learn from Zephaniah “he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing”( Zephaniah 3:17 ESV). The NIV reads, “He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer
rebuke you, but will rejoice over you
with singing.”
Then God himself will teach you wisdom and guide you to true repentance (Romans
2:4).
In
verses 7, 8, and 9, David tells us how God, who loves you, cleanses you. What
type of cleansing? The text reads “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean”. Purge literally means un-sin or de-sin, sin removed completely. Hyssop (1 Kings 4:33)
refers to the brush made from the hyssop plant, and the hyssop brush is used to sprinkle the blood of the Passover
lamb (Exodus 12:21-22). Also, entertain no doubt - you “shall
be whiter than snow” because of the blood
Jesus un-sins/de-sins you. As you
cling to Jesus, put your complete trust in His blood, and humbly and truly
confess and repent, you will hear sounds of “ joy and gladness” (Luke
15:7), and you will “rejoice.” Remember, He does not ‘Hide
his face from your sins,’ and will ‘blot out all your iniquities.’
Dear brother and sister in Christ, why struggle
and suffer in your sin? Cast your burden on Jesus (Psalm 55:22, Isaiah 41:13,
Matthew 6:25, Matthew 11:28-29, Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Peter 5:7)* and he will
give you rest and joy!
Dear Jesus, calm my
heart amid all that the world hurls at this sinner and help me focus on you,
your Word, and your cross and give me your peace. Amen
