Please read Psalm 98:1-9
Almost all of us use
sticky notes or as they are known Post-it notes. They are the most well-known product that 3-M produces.
In the 1970s Dr. Spencer Silver, a 3M scientist,
was trying to develop a strong adhesive. But he noticed something peculiar
about his new adhesive – it was sticking to surfaces but would not bond with them
permanently. So he shelved the project.
Meanwhile, another 3-M scientist Art Fry was having problems with using scraps
of papers to mark his church choir hymnal – they were not reliable, the scraps
of paper would not stay in place. So
nine years after Dr. Silver’s product was shelved, Art Fry realized the glue
was great for marking choir hymnals. So
even though the adhesive was not up to the original plan and standards it
worked out great for 3-M. The product is now used all over the world and in
2017 3-M sold $2.2 billion worth of Post-its.
That’s not
the only instance when something was created for one purpose but surprisingly
became a smash hit for another purpose. Play-Doh
was accidentally invented in 1955 by the McVickers while trying to make a
wallpaper cleaner.
Lets’ look at the history of
an all-time for favorite hymn – “Joy to the World”. When Isaac Watts, called the
Godfather of English Hymnody, penned, “Joy to the World” he did not use the birth
narratives of Jesus from the Gospels. Watts used Psalm 98 to celebrate the
second coming of Jesus. It was not even intended to be a hymn. But it has
turned out to be a great source of joy to many at Christmas time.
Dear brothers and sisters in
Christ, there are many believers who do not associate Joy with the Jesus’
Second Coming and the Book of Revelation -but in truth, Revelation 19:7-9 talks
about Joy of those who are invited to the marriage supper
of the Lamb meet Jesus. So we should not be afraid
of Jesus’ second coming.
Dear Lord Jesus, help my foolish heart not to fear your
coming for me and taking me to be with you. Amen.
Here are a couple of versions
