Happy Ash Wednesday?
Joyous Lent?
Dear sisters and
brothers:
Beginning today,
millions observe the 40-day Lent season! If we were to count the days from Ash
Wednesday to Easter we see that there are more than 40 days. Why so? Truth is Sundays
between Ash Wednesday and Easter are not counted because every Sunday we
celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus!
This year as
usual many will meditate on the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins and our
salvation. As we think about “wages (of sin) we deserve”, we also
have to appreciate what Christ did for God’s “free
gift of …eternal life” (Romans
6:23) for us. While we never forget the past- not to stumble again- we should always
look forward to the glorious future Jesus is preparing for us.
One day all
of us will die because of Adam’s sin. As a friend of mine says, death is not a
‘period’ (full stop in Commonwealth English) it’s a ‘comma’. Because of Jesus’ act
(1 Corinthians 15:26), we have the hope of eternal life and that should fill us
with peace and joy.
The next 40
days please pray that I will be faithful to the Lord’s work both in and outside
the church, which includes this blog. Thank you and God bless you all.
Dear Jesus, as I contemplate
on your love for me, a sinner, help me not to dwell on my past or turn to my sinful ways, but joyously look forward to the
glorious eternal life you are preparing for me. Amen.
Look forward to reading your blog this year.
